I came across this video on Facebook fairly late last night. It was one of those videos where you think to yourself I really shouldn't sit and watch this I should go to sleep but you just can't switch it off.
The thing I liked most about Tim's speech is the succinct deliverance of his 9 life lessons listed below.
- You don't have to have a dream
- Don't seek happiness
- It's all luck
- Be hard on your opinions
- Be a teacher
- Define yourself by what you love
- Respect people with less power than you
- Don't rush
As a comedian Tim has a way of delivering a line that will make sure you don't forget it. The one that stuck out the most for me...
This talk really made me consider how much pressure I put on myself, how much pressure society puts on individuals and how much of a rush we are all in to live our lives. We get one chance to live, learn and share our experiences yet for the majority we are closed to helping others. We judge and compete and create nothing but drama and stress.
Tim's talk is a reminder, of sorts, to be an individual. To do what makes you happy and to share that joy with others. Teach them why it makes you happy and hope that it brings joy to them too. To respect those around you and be grateful that you have the opportunity to live a life, lets face it the odds of you actually being alive are heavily stacked against you.
As always I recommend taking the 10 minutes or so to watch this video. You won't regret it.
